Civilian Eligibility
The NROTC Unit at IIT is looking for intelligent young men and women who actively seek out challenges, are looking for a well-rounded educational experience at a prestigious university, and desire an exciting career with limitless leadership opportunities. Below are lists of both the general eligibility criteria and physical/medical eligibility requirements.
  
 Be a United States citizen
Not less than 17 years old by Sept. 1st of year starting college and no more than 23 on June 30th of that year.
Must not have reached 27th birthday by June 30th of year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
Applicants with prior military service may be eligible for age adjustments for amount of time equal to their prior service, on month-by-month basis, for maximum of 36 months, if they will not reach 30th birthday by June 30th of year graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
High school graduation or equivalency certificate by Aug. 1st of year of entrance into four-year NROTC Scholarship program.
Physically qualified by Navy or Marine Corps standards.
No moral obligations or personal convictions that prevent conscientious bearing of arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic.
Apply for and gain admission to IIT; (Application for admission to IIT is separate from application for the NROTC Scholarship, although this is not required during selection process, notification of admission must be received before scholarship can be activated.)
Achieve qualifying scores on the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). All test scores must be on the same exam. Release test scores to the NROTC code 0656. Scores must also be released to IIT; school code ACT 1040, SAT: 1318. Current qualifying scores, by program are:

SAT/ACT Math and English scores must be from same test; applicants cannot combine best Math with best English scores to achieve qualifying score.
Students with more than 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of college credit upon application or students already enrolled in NROTC College Program are not eligible for four-year NROTC Scholarships; these students should contact the NROTC Unit at IIT to discuss other scholarship opportunities.
Students may apply for only one of the three scholarship program options-Navy, Marine Corps or Nurse.
You may start the process of applying during the second semester of your junior year of high school.
  
Physical and scholarship qualification processes are independent of each other, but students must receive favorable endorsement in both to receive an NROTC scholarship at IIT.

Vision not correctable to 20/20
Substandard color vision (Does not apply for Marine Corps or Nurse Option)
History of asthma
Acute or chronic cardiac/pulmonary conditions
Chronic skin disorders such as:
- Cystic acne
- Psoriasis
- Atopic dermatitis
- Eczema
Ununited fractures or major joint surgery
Arthritis
Seizure disorders
Severe motion sickness susceptibility
Alcohol or drug abuse

Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) schedules and reviews all physical examinations for IIT NROTC candidates.
If DODMERB determines a disqualifying condition exists, written request is required for waiver consideration; some medical conditions may be waived after further review. An IIT, NROTC Advisor can assist you with this process.
Applicants will be notified by DODMERB of any additional requirements for medical history consultations or diagnostic tests.
Surgical, laser, or mechanical procedures to correct defective visual acuity are absolute cause for disqualification; no waivers will be recommended.
Keratoconus or a history of treatment for this condition is absolutely disqualifying.
