Student Life
Our students, known as "Midshipmen" are full-time students at Illinois Institute of Technology preparing to become officers in the Navy or Marine Corps. They enjoy all the benefits and responsibilities of other IIT students with the added advantage of belonging to our team. Because there is no restriction on choice of academic major, midshipmen are free to pursue a curriculum that interests them at one of the nation's most respected institutions of higher learning. Some of our current students are pursuing degrees in: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and Psychology. IIT students also have the opportunity to work in some of the most advanced laboratories in the country alongside graduate students and faculty - researching cutting edge technology for prominent civilian and government organizations like The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Additionally, many midshipmen hold positions of leadership in multiple on-campus activities including fraternities, sororities, clubs, and varsity athletic teams.

Service Before Self
The combination of an undergraduate degree from Illinois Institute of Technology and a commission in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps gives you the opportunity to begin your professional career by serving your country. You will quickly learn how to challenge your personal limits while also discovering the uplift in strength and effectiveness that occurs when a military team focuses its attention on one target - forgetting individual differences while striving for a common goal. You will complete your obligated military service with the confidence and understanding of how to achieve extraordinary levels of team performance through the principles of leadership, the initiative of the subordinate, responsibility, and accountability that can provide you with the foundation necessary for a lifetime of accomplishment, integrity and respect.

Mentorship
Benevolence and mentorship are the hallmarks of exceptional military organizations. Outstanding military leaders find ways to create the conditions necessary for their subordinates to succeed rather than demanding success from their subordinates. All of us at IIT NROTC are responsible for supporting our students and future naval officers with the best possible counsel and available resources to ensure they develop the academic, moral, and social skills necessary for a lifetime of success.

Chicago
Just minutes from downtown Chicago, our midshipmen enjoy the advantages of going to school in an exciting cultural center. During the academic year, the NROTC team makes frequent use of the Pritzker Military Library, located in the heart of downtown. During baseball season, battalion outings can consist of trips to White Sox Park and Wrigley Field. Last year, our Tri-Service Military Ball was held at the nationally famous Chicago Hilton and Towers.
