About IIT NROTC : Program Overview

Program Overview

What is NROTC?

The NROTC Unit at Illinois Institute of Technology began on 1 July 1943. We have a long history of graduating commissioned officers from one of the nation's most prestigious engineering institutions. By embracing the ideals of initiative, teamwork, and mentorship, our students develop the skills and talents necessary to lead men and women in a complex and ever-changing Navy and Marine Corps. Our midshipmen are presidents of fraternities, varsity athletes, presidents of clubs on campus, and leaders among their peers both in and out of the classroom. Midshipmen enjoy the benefits of mentorship by a dedicated staff of active duty officers and enlisted personnel, and the feeling of pride that comes from belonging to an elite team on the IIT campus. Graduates of NROTC at IIT have exciting and rewarding careers in both military and civilian sectors.

The NROTC Program was established to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve. As the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the NROTC Program plays an important role in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps.
